Doctor M and the prescription for his covid 19 patient Bharat

This is the story of Doctor M who was a very well accomplished doctor. Doctor M had completed his study in medicines from the holy city of Varanasi and used to run his clinic near the banks of the Ganges. It was a small clinic situated in a lane that was full of tea shops. The doctor was assisted by a compounder who was popularly known as Amit Bhai.

The business was flourishing with patients lining up outside the clinic every morning. Doctor M would meet the patients and listen carefully to their problems. After the diagnosis, Amit Bhai would mix the ingredients and give the medication. But Doctor M was an ambitious doctor and was always aiming for the capital city of India, Delhi. He knew that he can do wonders if he shifts his clinic to Delhi. More than the money he wanted to be seen in the company of power.

Finally, Doctor M and Amit Bhai shifted to Delhi and named their clinic “Swachh Clinic”. Doctor M was not only a skillful doctor but also a creative one. To make his clinic popular he started a cleanliness drive in the nearby areas and made the residents aware that to keep diseases away one has to maintain good hygiene not only at home but also outside. The Doctor’s popularity was rising day by day and soon he became a doctor of International repute.

Doctor M meets a patient called Bharat

Bharat had heard about Doctor M and wanted to seek medical advice on a chronic disease he was suffering from. On close examination Doctor M found that Bharat was not in a good shape. While checking his pulse the doctor found Bharat’s hands with a thick layer of coal soot. Bharat told him that he has dirtied his hands in a coal scam (Koyle ki dalali me muh kala is a famous Hindi proverb).

Bharat was also suffering from asphyxiation and finding it difficult to breathe. Doctor M studied his past reports on why he was choking. Bharat told him that he has been long suffering from a migraine and a lot of doctors had examined him in the past.

He showed  Doctor M the prescription of Dr. M Singh, Dr. Sibal, Dr. Chidambaram, and Dr. J Ramesh all experts in various fields. All the doctors had diagnosed two nerves in his brain called J and K that have been bleeding for long because of a foreign body present in the brain. The only solution was an operation. But as the two nerves were very sensitive none of the doctors were willing to operate.

Doctor M told Bharat that he was willing to take the risk and can perform a surgical strike that can permanently cure the nerves J&K. After the operation there will be a period of rehabilitation and the migraine problem of Bharat will be solved forever.

The treatment of Doctor M that got Bharat back on his feet

Bharat was thrilled with the treatment of Doctor M and started visiting him regularly. But getting an appointment with him was not that easy. The doctor had become famous and started attending a lot of international medical conferences in the US, UK, and other countries. He was good at building relationships and as a result,  successfully trumped over the Surgeon General of the USA called Dr. Donald.

But as the popularity of Doctor M was rising so was his ego. Doctor M took a drastic step of accepting consultation fees only through digital wallets and stopped accepting cash. As a result, the poor patients couldn’t afford him anymore. This led to a fall in his popularity but Doctor M was not concerned. He had full confidence in Amit Bhai who had a special skill set of bringing new patients to the clinic. With the help of Amit Bhai, Doctor M opened a clinic in all 29 states of India. Patients had heard a lot of Dr. M and they started lining outside his clinic. It was a different matter that all the clinics were not popular but more than 2/3^rd started making profits.

Bharat gets infected by Covid-19

It was early March 2020. Covid 19 was affecting every country in the world. Patients were lining up outside Dr. M’s clinic. His first advice to every patient was to stay at home and whenever in dire straits they needed to bang their utensils outside his clinic.

Bharat despite all the precautions got infected with Covid 19 and developed all the symptoms.

A visit to Doctor M with Covid symptoms

The first symptom that Bharat developed was throat pain because of which he was not able to speak. Doctor M recommended him a medication that was formulated by Amit Bhai in the clinic. Bharat had developed a lot of trust in Doctor M and he took the medication as prescribed.

The next morning Bharat realised that instead of getting better he was losing his voice something which he was very proud of. Being in a democratic country free voice was his biggest asset. He could express himself freely on any subject without his voice getting choked. But after the medication, he felt he was choking. The more he tried expressing the more he kept losing his voice. One of his friends in the media advised that he should press his larynx so as not to lose his power of speaking. However, Bharat was feeling helpless. He was losing the “Power of Press” and could feel his voice getting choked.

Bharat rushed to Doctor M

By the time Bharat visited Doctor M, he had developed a fever. Doctor M initially had been criticised for his Covid-19 medication but gradually people started recognising his line treatment that was helping patients recover.

Doctor M met Bharat to check on his fever and diagnosed it as farm fever. Yes, Bharat was suffering from farm fever.  As a result, the arteries carrying the blood to his heart were getting choked. Human blood is made of red blood corpuscles that carry oxygen from the lungs to different parts of the body. In other words just like a human being needs food grains produced by farmers to survive, similarly every body part needs oxygen to function properly.

But farm fever was something new for Doctor M. He told Bharat that he will give medication for the fever but was not sure if it will help in removing the blockage of arteries.

When Bharat had to be hospitalized

After a couple of days of developing fever and a sore throat, Bharat got dysentery. He was hospitalized in Doctor M’s clinic and was put on IV fluids. Bharat checked with the doctor why IV fluid and why not a medication to stop dysentery. The doctor told him that just like a car needs petrol, similarly human body needs a lot of fluids and salts to keep it hydrated.

The doctor told Bharat that he will soon get all the energy back and start walking. However, when Bharat realised that each IV fluid pack was costing double the market rate, he nearly fainted. He argued with the doctor on why the IV fluid was priced at such exorbitant rates? Doctor M gave him a cold shoulder saying that IV fluid is imported from the Gulf countries and if anybody has to be blamed it is them and not him.
