The Indian Tea: A beverage popular with all ages

Bonding over Indian Tea

Tea in India is enjoyed with the morning newspaper
Sipping a hot cup of tea in the morning

Nothing sounds sweeter than a three-letter word called The Indian Tea. The moment a tea-break is announced in an official conference, it means you can take a break. A break from all those heavily loaded power-point presentations, full of figures. When your friend calls saying let’s meet over tea, it means it’s time to refresh some old memories. And when you insist that your guests at home should leave only after having tea, it means you want to spend some more time with them.

Its the beverage of the morning
Reading Newspaper with a cup of tea

The early morning role of tea in our life is understood by all of us. When you are reading a newspaper, it’s easy to digest the news with a cup of tea. Also to clear your digestion system in the morning, tea has to be consumed, sometimes in 2-3 servings. And if you wanted to enjoy the medicinal value of tea then what better than tea with honey or green tea. Just like a morning newspaper is incomplete without a cup of tea, similarly, a tea is incomplete without a glucose biscuit.

Tea has become so important in life that our days have also been categorized based on tea. So, we have high-tea in the evening and bed- tea in the morning.

Tea plays various roles in our lives. Sometimes it plays the role of an angel while sometimes it plays the devil. Let us see how.

When the Indian Tea comes to our rescue

Breaking a deadlock

An Argument can be resolved over tea
A heated argument can be resolved with a cup of tea

You and your wife had a late-night argument before going to bed. You were just thinking of how your wife fails to see your perspective. It has been 20 years of staying together and still, the situation keeps happening at least once a week. You go to sleep thinking all this. The next morning you get up early and realise that you had failed to see your wife’s perspective. Immediately, as an act of repent, you decide to make your wife a hot cup of tea and wake her up by saying, “Good Morning sweety! Here is your cup of tea”.

Breaking the monotony of figures

A break in a sales conference is a must to break the monotony
Breaking the monotony with tea

It is the annual sales conference. The conference is at an exotic 5-star location in Goa. You are sitting in a dim-lighted conference room along with all your colleagues who have come from various zones. Director marketing has just finished his welcome address and now all the teams are supposed to present. Sitting in the conference room you can hear the sound of waves hitting the shores of Goa. Looking at the heavy targets of next year, you have already started yawning. Suddenly the VP announces that it’s time for a tea-break and you are just blessing the Indian tea which has come at the right time.

Tea creates a bond

Love at first sight

The favourite beverage of a Student
Love at first sight

You have taken admission in the 1st year of one of the top colleges of Delhi University in the North Campus. Most of the friends are new but you have started enjoying their company. You have tasted freedom for the first time after school. Most of the time you bunk the classes with your friends to land up in the college canteen. The order for the entire group is tea with bread pakora. It is here that you meet her for the first time. She looks very quiet in her group, dresses simply and has beautiful eyes. You are desperate to know which stream she is from. And gradually your tea consumption goes up as you start frequenting the canteen more often.

The Matchmaker

Connecting people over a match-making
Tea the match maker

Your daughter wants you to meet the parents of the boy. She got your and mother’s consent after a lot of persuasions. Today the boy’s parents are coming home and both of you are feeling nervous. After the initial introduction, it’s the Indian tea which plays the role of a match-maker. Remember our Bollywood films. In every scene where the boy comes home with his parents to see the girl, the entry of the girl is always with a tray carrying a tea-set. Tea has thus become an integral part of any match-making affair.

Tea the gossip-monger

The Kitty parties

Gossiping over Tea

Such parties are the biggest source of any grapevine. The critics generally gather every month at a nice joint with the idea of spending some good time. But ultimately an empty mind is a devil’s workshop. And it is in this workshop that a lot of gossip is churned out which travels faster than the speed of sound. The Indian tea comes into the picture as it is the one which triggers the gossip round.

The Town-hall meeting

Town-hall meetings are becoming quite common in all workplaces. Normally, whenever a town hall meeting is called at a short notice, the tea area in the offices become quite a disturbing joint. You can see employees assembling one by one at the tea machine and questioning in a subtle voice on the agenda of the town hall meeting which nobody knows. Most of the time the breaking news of down-sizing happens at the town hall meeting. But smart employees guess it before while having their cup of tea.

Tea has a political hue

When Obama met Modi over tea
President Obama and PM Modi meeting over Tea

Remember when President Obama visited India in 2015 and PM Modi had served him tea at the Hyderabad house. Well, it led to a very cordial relationship between India and the US. Probably we need to invite President Trump over Tea. It may help in breaking a deadlock on the new trade war.

Chai pe Charcha became a trigger point of PM Modi’s political campaign in 2014. And if you also have an aspiration to become a PM, learn to make and sell tea.

Romancing with Tea

Enjoying tea during a journey
Enjoying your journey with a cup of tea

Any journey, whether vacation or official, is incomplete without a tea stop. If you are driving from Delhi to Chandigarh than a halt at Murthal for parantha with a hot cup of tea to sip, gives you goosebumps. If you are traveling to Shimla, Manali or Nainital, breaking your journey to have a cup of tea is one of the most exciting parts.

Let’s hope that our life carries on like a beautiful journey and we keep getting energized throughout by having a refreshing cup of tea.
