Cosmetics and Handbags feeling left out of a womens world

There are so many items in the house that are feeling left out during the lockdown. The car and the scooter standing in the parking slot, the formal clothes looking down at you from the hangars, the shoes and the watches. Everyone is just waiting for the lockdown to get over to see the light of the day. Most of the items in the bedroom have taken backstage while the items in the kitchen are overworked.

The lockdown at home has resulted in social distancing. Social distancing not in terms of staying away physically but staying way from socialising with friends and families at the parties. The wife doesn’t blame the husband anymore of getting late for the party. On the other hand, the husband doesn’t blame his spouse for taking too much time to dress up making them late for the party.

Lockdown has changed the routine of the house

Mom and Dads priority is to replenish the kitchen items
Now my kitchen is full

Mom and dad are busy stocking essential food items and other groceries at home. Rice, wheat, pulses, white flour, spices are getting replenished weekly while vegetables, bread, milk, and eggs daily. Apart from this, there is a lot of emphasis on hygiene products like soap, hand wash, hand sanitizer, washing powder.

This has created a lot of dissonance at home amongst other products. The cosmetics lying on the dressing table are seen removing dust from their surface. The handbags are scared of not only becoming out of shape but also developing wrinkles on their face.

The ladies Handbags , heels and the cosmetics are feeling left out
Seems mam has lost interest in us

The flip-flops and the stilettos have never got such a step-motherly treatment. While the rubber slippers are having a field day shoes, heels and the flip flops are lockdown in a closet. Because of the lockdown, they are being attacked by a virus called the fungus. They are worried! What if the fungus leaves a permanent scar on their skin? The lady of the house will surely reject them.

The Lipstick and the Nail polish are feeling left out

The entire collection of 21 lipsticks on the dressing table; some resting in a lipstick stand while the rest lying flat on their back are gathering dust. The best of the brands from Mac to Lakme to Maybelline, each with a different number is vying for mam’s attention.

There was a time when the lady of the house would visit the mirror 20 times a day. With every visit, she would check the lipstick. If it was fading she would pick one and apply on her lips. The lipstick used to breathe fresh air every time the cap was opened. But these days they are feeling left out and suffocated. For the last 18 days, mam has not even touched them once.

Nail Polish have not been opened for days now
This way we are soon going to die

The Nail polish bottle has not been unscrewed for more than 2 weeks and has got a stiff neck. The entire gang is on the verge of extinction. They fear that if things don’t improve they may lose their glamour and end up in a dump.

Other party animals also feeling left out

The foundation and the concealer always felt that they were the real party animals. Mam would not leave for any social gathering or a party till the time she had applied a layer of foundation and the concealer.

The foundation was feeling left out and dejected. Its complexion had become dull. On the other hand, the concealer had started doubting its existence. It was feeling left out and dejected. It had helped mam in good times concealing layers of her secrets. Now the concealer itself has got concealed in a sealed drawer.

The eye mascara considered herself as an item of daily use. Applying an eye mascara was as important for the mam as brushing teeth every day. However, in the lockdown mam continued brushing her teeth but has stopped applying the mascara. This was a black spot on her career. She was made for mam’s eyes only. With mam closing her eyes towards her, it made her feel miserable.

The Handbags, the Flip flops, and the Heels felt as if they are out of jobs

Just next to the dressing table in the bedroom is a 4-door wardrobe. The top three shelves of one single compartment are completely occupied by colourful handbags from the family of Michael Kors, Coach and Charles and Keith. There is stiff competition amongst the bags each trying to get mam’s attention whenever she steps out. The ones casually dressed accompany mam in the day time and the ones with a shinier outfit get picked up for parties. Mam is not racial and doesn’t discriminate based on colour or creed (brand).

Handbags are locked in the wardrobe
Handbags desperately want to hug mam once

Ever since the lockdown started, mam has not opened the door of the wardrobe once. The handbags are dying to get a gasp of fresh air. They are worried that at this rate they may become out of fashion and get discarded by the owner. Standing inclined on the wall of the wardrobe they seem to be losing strength and slipping over one another. At this rate, they will not only lose shape but also develop wrinkles on their face.

In one corner of the bedroom is the shoe rack. Standing tall over the top shelf are 6 different kinds of heels each with an inflated ego. After all, it is their tall ego which makes mam give a false feeling of being taller than the rest.

Lockdown has crushed the tall ego of the heels

The flip flops occupy the bottom shelf of the rack. Both are feeling jealous! Mam these days only walks in a down-market rubber slipper. Standing in the same position for 3 weeks the heel has got a backache. The designer flip flops are covered with a layer of dust. They are living in this hope that one day they will overcome the feeling of being left out.

The hyperactive Kitchen and the overflowing bar: the only ones not feeling left out

While most of the items in the bedroom have been neglected for the last 3 weeks, one of the most active places in the house is the kitchen. The Gas stove is feeling the heat. It’s overworked with at least one of the 4 burners lighted most of the time. Staple items like wheat, rice, semolina, white flour, poha (flattened rice) are replenished frequently but are getting consumed at a much rapid pace. An idle mind is a devil’s workshop but these days it seems that an idle mind is foody’s workshop.

The family members who are lockdown in house and have got nothing much to do except binge-eating or binge-watching. The kitchen utensils are praying to God for the situation to return normal to avoid over-exploitation.

The Overworked refrigerator

The refrigerator is being over used
These people are just not letting me rest

The refrigerator standing in one corner of the dining hall is overworked. Every time the door opens it has to work harder to keep things cool. But in the last 3 weeks, its door has opened more than twice the monthly average. It supplies juice, milk eggs in the morning. Curd, wheat dough for chapatis and previous days cooked vegetables in the afternoon. In the evening its freezer department gets in an overdrive mode. Ice and frozen non-vegetarian items disappear within minutes.

A Lady saying cheers
Time to relax

The last item which has got designer lights and stands proudly in one corner of the dining hall is the bar. Most of the bedroom items are jealous of the items stored in the bar. It seems the only one who is getting the attention of both Sir and Mam these days is the bar. Every bottle gets a chance to come out of the bar and breathe fresh air. The lockdown has been a blessing for all the aged bottles in the bar who were aging day by day. Once the lockdown opens the aged bottles will give space to fresh ones and life will carry on.
