The Class 12 Board Result: The judgement day

The Class 12 board result will be soon declared. Conducted by CBSE it is a much awaited school result all across India. The Class 12^th result day is also known as Judgement day in a life of a student. It is the most prestigious examination in the entire career of a student. The results decide whether a student will go for Engineering/Medical or Commerce/ Economics or Law/Science etc. Anxious students eagerly wait for the day when the board results will be declared. Parents try to control their emotions but within their heart,they are even more anxious to know the result of their child.

What happens the day of class 12 board result are announced?

News about class 12 board result getting declared on the Board’s website spreads like fire (even faster than a forest fire). One school friend gets to know and suddenly a chain reaction set in. Parents, students and friends are quickly exchanging messages, calls. And suddenly everybody is logged onto the site. The rush is so strong that most of the time the board’s server crashes. This is also the day when telecom companies see a many fold jump in their daily revenues – telephone calls, sms and internet usage. Social media companies also see a surge in the traffic. FB and Instagram are full of congratulation messages while Google is used to search on how to apply for re-checking or which college you will get admission if you have scored 75%.

Post results, students can be classified into 3 different categories:

The Happy Go Lucky Kinds:

This category comprises of students who had studied less and prayed more to God. They have finally got a percentage which nobody is willing to accept – neither parents, nor friends or nor the student himself. Its celebration time for them. While the student is busy attending the congratulatory phone calls, mother is preparing “suji ka halwa” and father has taken a half day off from office to reach home soon.

The Near Miss Category:

This category comprises of students who were confident from Day 1 that they will score the highest and top in either school or board or subject or city. The only dilemma for them is that where did that 1 mark disappeared. So, the ones who have got 499/500 are wondering which teacher checked their papers. The ones who score 480/500 are upset on the loss of those 20 marks.

The Hard Working With Hard Luck Category:

Majority of students fall in this category. There are two sections of students here. One, who have studied very hard throughout the year and are nowhere close to the expectations they had. Obviously they are not in a good mood.The second one are those students who created an impression that they studied very hard throughout the year (though in realty they didn’t) but are happy to accept whatever numbers they got.

Once the numbers have sunk in everybody’s mind including the numbers your best friend and the most competitive friend got, life moves onto the next phase:

This phase can be best explained by Einstein’s famous Energy-Mass equation: E=mc_2

where E stand for Energy, M for Mass multiplied by C the speed of light (squared)

In a post 12^th class result scenario E=mc_2 is very relevant but with slight modification.

Here E stands for Envy = Marks of the Competitor (raised to power 2)

Higher the marks your friend gets, higher is the secretion of hormone Oxytocin (hormone responsible for jealous).

There is a piece of advice from the author who faced a surge in his adrenal gland activity once his son passed 12^th board, some 4 years back. The excitement levels were as high as today’s parent. Luckily the son belonged to the “The Near Miss Category”. The numbers he scored only gave a social satisfaction – social meaning how intelligent your kid is perceived by your social circle. Since he wanted to be an engineer he had to appear for the entrance examination, where the class 12^th results were secondary (you need to only have a minimum % to qualify for the exam).

So guys chill out! Numbers have a shelf life. They are valid only till the time you don’t get into a new stream. So just go out and chill with your friends. It is time to celebrate! Remember all your best friends will now move on a different path. Destiny has a future for all. Even you have one.
