Colombo: Take a vow that you will not bow to the terrorists
359 deaths have been reported by the Sri Lankan Government from the bomb blast which took place on Sunday Easter in Colombo. 50 was the death toll at the Christchurch Mosque shooting in New Zealand on 15th March. So why are these killings happening and why on innocent people? Actually, nobody has an answer to these hate crimes. Nobody even knows if the bombing which took place in Colombo was a reaction to the Christchurch shootings in a mosque. What surprised me today is that refugees from Pakistan who have taken shelter in Colombo are now being targeted and driven out. So where does this hate crime ends
Human race is always scared of Nuclear attacks. Nuclear attacks can result in catastrophe which can wipe off life from earth. But I think that more than the nuclear attacks, it is the hate crimes which poses a bigger challenge to human race.
Hate Crimes like at Colombo are like Nuclear Explosion.
A Nuclear bomb is based on the principle of fission that uses power released by the splitting of atomic nuclei. When a single free neutron strikes the nucleus of an atom of radioactive material like uranium or plutonium, it knocks two or three more neutrons free. Energy is released when those neutrons split off from the nucleus. The newly released neutrons strike other uranium or plutonium nuclei, splitting them in the same way, releasing more energy and more neutrons. This chain reaction spreads almost instantaneously. And if not controlled can lead to a nuclear explosion. Graphite rods are used to slow down the chain reaction. The energy released during the process is harnessed to produce electricity. At times even heavy water is also used to slow down the chain reaction in a nuclear reactor. Heavy water is water that contains heavy hydrogen or deuterium.
We need Leaders who can control hate crimes.
World leaders are like the graphite rods. They will have to play a more pro-active role in controlling these hate crimes. If not controlled on time, it can lead to a chain reaction resulting in more deaths just like a nuclear bomb.
One World leader who has shown an exemplary courage and maturity is the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern. Apart from handling the situation post New Zealand mosque attack quite well she recently said that her government was not aware of any intelligence suggesting that a devastating attack on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka was in retaliation for deadly shootings on a mosque in Christchurch. That is like slowing down the chain reaction of hate crimes by pouring heavy water over it.
We need more leaders like her. Leaders, who can harness the energy of mankind in such a way that it leads to prosperity across the world. What world requires is not a chain reaction of hate crimes but a chain reaction of development across the world. A development which will uplift the poor, educate the world and make the citizens healthy.
