Too much focus on Numbers has killed Fun at Workplace
Where has the fun element disappeared? I remember there was a time when we used to work and also have fun at the workplace. Working hard was a part of the culture but it was the “topping of fun” that made the entire package enjoyable. Today it seems we only have stress and stress and stress. The fun has evaporated. Everybody is just running after numbers. How much number you achieve gets in your report card. Basis that you are either a success or a failure. I am a strong believer of “Working with fun” culture. Fun doesn’t mean that you keep shouting at your team, mistrust them throughout the day and then take them out for drinks in the evening. Fun means you give your team – liberty to operate, allow them to approach a particular problem in their own way with supervision, flexibility in terms of working so that they have a work- life balance. If your employee is running for his kids school admission allow him to come late or if his mother is getting operated then giving him leave so that he can take care of her post operation. We need to be more humane rather than making our teams go insane. I think this is a better way to keep employees happy in the long run and making them work while having fun. Being compassionate is a great quality that leaders should have. One of the biggest reason that employees leave an organisation is because of their Boss. A compassionate Boss on the other hand can help in retaining talent.
